The Department of English and Humanities at Birkbeck is well respected with an excellent reputation, both national and international. Our research is world-class. In the 2008 national Research Assessment Exercise, we achieved notable success, with 90% of our research being deemed of ‘quality that is recognised internationally in terms of originality, significance and rigour’, 35% of which was declared to be ‘world-leading’.

The Department of History of Art has a long-standing reputation of developing high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses that meet students’ interests and professional needs, delivered by  staff engaged in a fascinating range of research projects regularly funded by research bodies including the AHRC and the Leverhulme Trust.
