Visual Protest: Art and Militancy in the Suffrage Campaign

Visual Protest: Art and Militancy in the Suffrage Campaign took place on Tuesday 15 May, as part of the Birkbeck Arts Week 2018. Gillian Murphy (Women’s Library @LSE) and Monica Walker (Old Operating Theatre Museum and Department for Continuing Education, University of Oxford) explored militant suffragettes’ engagement with visual arts through the examples of the Artists’ Suffrage League and the attack on the Rokeby Venus.
